CAREER CHANGE
The background: Sara had followed her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Studies with a career in office management and administration. This was a career she 'fell into' and at 28 years old she found herself persistently and increasingly unfulfilled at work. She worked with us to help her identify and navigate a complete career change.
The issues: o Boredom and lack of challenge o A feeling that the work she was doing was pointless and made no difference o A persistent conviction that she was not doing the work that was right for her o Confusion and lack of clarity on what the right profession would be
The process Sara worked one-to-one with an expert career coach, through the 8 step Authentic Vocation programme. The sessions quickly revealed that Sara was deeply driven by, and got real enjoyment from working with people, young children in particular. She thrived on a sense of community and contribution –nurturing and developing human potential being an essential part of her self-expression. She was also creative and very practical. None of these important aspects of her character and motivation were being fulfilled in her office job.
The results A period of exploration and in-depth research brought Sara (with some excitement) to the choice of Primary School Teaching – a carefully considered career change for which she has unbridled passion and dedication. She is currently in the process of PGCE application and training.
What Sara says “ My whole life has changed since the day I consulted One Smart Step. Through the coaching I have been able to clearly identify and understand more fully my strengths, weaknesses, motivators and values in not only a career setting but also generally. As a result I am more positive about my career and my future prospects and feel more confidant about who I am. From this whole experience I have been able to identify a new career, which is more in line with my natural strengths. I have resigned from my job and am looking forward to starting my training for my new career.”
